How to cut a Pineapple

Do you love delicious fresh pineapple, but struggle with how to cut a pineapple? Well, you can do this, I have faith in you. It is actually very easy and quick, once you know the technique. We love to have a bowl of fresh cut pineapple in the fridge for a quick snack after a run or to add to breakfast. The trick to safely and easily cutting a pineapple or any other non-flat fruits or vegetables is to get a flat side or end so it is stable. If something is rolling around it will be hard to cut safely.

First thing is about 30 minutes prior to cutting the pineapple you should turn it upside down.

Why? Well, all the sugars in the pineapple have settled to the bottom because of gravity. So this just reverses that process and helps get the sugars more evenly distributed throughout the pineapple. That means every piece will be good.

Now to the cutting. First, twist off the green stem at the top, it should twist off nice and easily. You could skip this step, I always do it because I find it easier to handle and see where I’m cutting, but it is your call.

Next cut of both end, these are the flat ends I was talking about earlier, this will allow the pineapple to rest on the cutting board without falling over.

Now stand that bad boy up, flat bottom on the board. Next slice off the outer skin off. Now here you need a little judgement, go to deep and you will be wasting some of the edible pineapple, not deep enough and you will be left with some of the skin. So find the sweet spot and slice away until all the skin is removed.

Next cut the pineapple in half, then those half in half. You should have 4 wedges.

Now we need to cut out that nasty core, unless you like chewing on a piece of wood, I suggest removing it.

We are in the home stretch now allow you need to do is slice these wedges to the desired size you want. I usually cut each wedge into thirds which will leave nice bit size chunks. You really can’t go wrong here make a few slice and see what happens. To big or to small? Adjust on the next wedge and there you have it. Congratulations you now know how to cut a pineapple!
