Delicious, moist and loaded with apple flavor! This Apple Cinnamon Bread with Streusel Topping is so good! Eat it for breakfast or dessert!
I’m loaded up with apples right now! My family and I went to our favorite orchard the other day and we picked a lot of apples! Macoun, McIntosh, and Granny Smith, to name a few of my favorite kinds. With all these apples on-hand, I made this delicious Apple Cinnamon Bread with Streusel Topping and it did not disappoint!
It’s super moist, loaded with apple and cinnamon flavor and the streusel topping is to die for! My go to topping that I have used in both my Amazing Blueberry Muffins and The Best Pumpkin Muffins. The topping combines sugar, flour butter and cinnamon giving it the perfect ending to any bread or muffin!
In addition to the streusel topping, I like to add on this vanilla glaze. However, my husband and kids like theirs plain with butter. Some like it room temperature, while I like mine heated. Experiment, the possibilities are endless! There’s no wrong way to eat this bread! It’s all good!
What apples should I use?
According to Betty Crocker, the best baking apples are ones that are firm and hold their shape during baking. Examples include Braeburn, Cortland, Honey Gold, Jonathan, Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, Haralson and Newton Pippin. I used Granny Smith apples in this apple bread, because they don’t break down during baking and I enjoy the tart taste of the apples combined with the sweetness you get from the sugar.
My Favorite Apples for Baking…
Cortland Apples
Around the New England area, Cortlands are harvested starting around mid-September. Early season flavor is tart and very firm. Late season flavor is slightly sweet and somewhat firm. Cortlands are great in pies and most commonly used in tarts and salads.
McIntosh Apples
McIntosh apples are harvested starting September 1st. Early season flavor is slightly tart and firm. Late season flavor is sweet and and somewhat firm. When fully ripe, these apples have unbelievable flavor! Thus, the reason I love using them for apple sauce. The slightly tart but sweet flavor makes for a perfect apple sauce! Family favorite! Try my Quick & Easy Homemade Applesauce and see for yourself!
Macoun Apples
Macoun apples are harvested around September 20th. Early season flavor is tart with a sweet finish. Some people call these apple “the potato chip” apple because of its crispy crunch when you bite into it. Late season flavor is sweet and soft. So pick early on to avoid a mussy apple. These apples are great to eat and I love using them for apple sauce too!
Granny Smith Apples
Granny Smith apples are harvested around October 20th. Early season flavor is very tart and extremely firm. Late season flavor is mild tartness and very firm. Great for pies, tarts and baking. Plus, Granny Smith apples can be found in most grocery stores all year long.
Apple Cinnamon Bread with Streusel Topping-Ingredients
Ground cinnamon, flour light brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking spray with flour, salt, milk, eggs, pure vanilla extract, baking powder, apples, butter.
How to make Apple Cinnamon Bread with Streusel Topping and if desired, add vanilla glaze!
Apple Cinnamon Bread-Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Spray a bread pan with baking spray with flour and set aside. This is the best and easiest way to ensure your bread won’t stick. You can also line the pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Set aside.
- Using a stand mixer with a paddle attachment or a hand mixer, beat the butter.
- Add sugars and beat until light and fluffy.
- Drop in eggs, pure vanilla extract and milk. Beat until combined.
- Add dry ingredients and beat until combined.
- Wash, peel and grate apples. The reason I like to grate the apples is because I like my bread to have a smoother texture. If you like large chunks of apples in your bread, then dice the apples instead. This will yield a chunkier bread. Fold apples into the batter.
- Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan.
Streusel Topping-Instructions
This Streusel Topping is so delicious and adds a lot of sweet, cinnamon flavor to this bread. It’s amazing!
- Combine cinnamon, butter, flour, light brown sugar and granulated sugar. Cut in butter using a pastry cutter or fork until it resembles little crumbles.
- Spread over batter.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Topping should be golden brown.
- Let cool in pan for about 10 minutes. Remove from pan and transfer to a wire rack and let cool completely.
Vanilla Glaze (Optional)-Instructions
Add this simple vanilla glaze to the top for an even more decadent dessert bread! It not only looks great but tastes amazing! I enjoy it with the glaze while my husband and kids like it plain with butter. Experiment to see what your favorite way is!
- In a small mixing bowl, add melted butter, powdered sugar, milk and pure vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
- Drizzle over the top of the bread.
- Slice, serve and enjoy!
Storing/Freezing-Instructions
