For many people, chocolate chip cookies are the #1 choice when it comes to baked goods. Who doesn’t love, rich, chewy, gooey chocolate chip cookies?
History of the Chocolate Chip Cookie
In 1938, Ruth Graves along with fellow chef, Sue Bridges invented the chocolate chip cookie. Ruth owned the Toll House Inn, in Whitman, Massachusetts. This Inn was a popular restaurant that focussed on home cooking. One of the featured desserts was a thin butterscotch nut cookie served with ice cream. Although popular, Ruth decided to switch things up a bit and created the “Toll House Cookie,” named after her Inn. She chopped up a Nestlé semi-sweet chocolate bar and baked the chocolate bits in the cookie.
Ruth originally called these cookies “Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookies.” Eventually they were renamed “Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies” after Ruth gave Nestlé the recipe. In return, Nestlé gave Ruth a lifetime supply of chocolate!
During WWII, stationed over seas, soldiers from Massachusetts shared these cookies they received in their care packages with their fellow soldiers from other parts of the country. Soon, soldiers from around the country were requesting these cookies too! Ruth began to receive many, many letters requesting her recipe. Thus, began the nation and worldwide fascination with the chocolate chip cookie.
Present Day
Today, people near and far love this popular treat. On July 9, 1997 Massachusetts name the chocolate chip cookie as the official state cookie, honoring the fact that it originated in Massachusetts.

This looks amazing… I’ll have to try it next time the grandkids visit! I only wish my attempts with a pastry bag had my frosting look like yours!
For company tomorrow, though, trying the strawberry shortcake, adding the balsalmic vinegar…taking your word that it enhances the flavor.
Yes, it brings out the flavors!
