These “Easy as Pie” Cherry Turnovers are super quick and easy to make. The puff pastry adds layers of light, buttery and flakey goodness to this delicious turnover!
Who doesn’t love a good pie? If you are like me, I enjoy all types of fruit pies. My personal favorite? Strawberry rhubarb pie or anything using this combo. My husband’s favorite? Cherry pie, morning, noon and night!
To this day, his sisters and brothers reminisce about when their mom would make “Jimmy’s favorite pie” for dessert (which he adamantly claims was once a year on President’s Day. I actually can attest to this, because she still makes it on President’s Day and brings it over). Being the youngest of five, he was the last one to get anything! But when his mom made this pie, he got first dibs! Maybe that’s why it’s his favorite pie. Because it was the only one he could get his hands on!
As I mentioned, I love pie, but sometimes you just want to make something quick and easy. So today, I made these “easy as pie” cherry turnovers for my husband and kids to enjoy!
In addition to being totally scrumptious, these turnovers are so versatile that you can have one for breakfast or dessert! Easy to make, easy to eat and easy to grab on the go! What’s better than that?
Are you ready? Grab your puff pastry and within 30 minutes you’ll be eating these “easy as pie” cherry turnovers too!
“Easy as Pie” Cherry Turnovers-Ingredients
Cherry pie filling, egg white, puffy pastry. (Optional: cinnamon)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lay thawed puff pastry on a board and cut it into four squares.
Add about 1 tablespoon of cherry pie filling. Take a brush and dip into the beaten egg white and rub edges.
Fold puff pastry in half, (it’s ok if some of the filling comes out). Brush egg white on top.
To seal, use a fork and crimp edges together. This helps to keep the filling from spilling out.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Remove from pan and let cool completely. Once cooled, drizzle vanilla glaze over the top. Use a piping bag or a sandwich bag (as shown), cut a very small hole at the tip of the bag and drizzle over the turnovers.
Serve warm or cold, with or without ice cream and enjoy!
