What is an appetizer?
Did you know that the according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, an appetizer is food or drink served before a meal to stimulate ones appetite? I am not sure I’ll ever look at another appetizer the same way again! Who needs an appetite stimulator? I certainly don’t! I thought it was just to keep me from getting “hangry” before the main course! Guess not!
How big should appetizers be?
First and foremost, appetizers should be easy to eat. General rule of thumb, they should be easy to eat with your fingers. In addition to being small in size, they should also be tasty, attractive and something the majority of your guest will enjoy.
Three types of easy appetizers
One of the most easy appetizers is fruit and veggie platters. These appetizers add healthy alternatives and eye-catching color. Often accompanied by a dressing or a yogurt dipping sauce.
Another popular and easy appetizer is chips and dip. Dips can be hot or cold and served with chips, pieces of bread, pretzels, crackers or vegetables. Dips are simple and a favorite of both kids and adults. Some popular dips include, artichoke dip, taco dip, buffalo chicken dip, french onion dip and salsa.
Rounding out my third easy appetizer, is cheese platters. Super easy to do especially when you are short on time. Cheese trays often include, cheddar, hot pepper, gouda, brie, blue cheese, and spreadable cheeses like port wine cheese. Cheese platters are most often accompanied by crackers but breads and pita chips are also a good alternative.
