This is truly The Best Homemade Eggnog you will ever try! This recipe has been in my family for over 100 years and it’s absolutely delicious!
Creamy, rich, delicious is the only way to describe The Best Homemade Eggnog recipe! My family has been serving this eggnog every Christmas for over 100 years, and to this day, I have yet to find a recipe that is better.
When my mother was little, every time she visited her grandparents on a Sunday morning, they would whip up some egg yolks, add some sugar and put it in their coffee. Interested grandchildren would gather around, and my great-grandmother would whip some egg yolks and sugar for them to try. My mom said she remembers taking spoonfuls and eating it with her brother and her cousins. It was creamy and delicious! Hard to resist!
My grandmother who lived to 100 years old, used to tell stories of how the eggnog came about. When my great-grandparents came to the United States in the late 1800s, they opened a meat market in Solvay, New York. Every Christmas Eve, they would make batches of cookies and eggnog to serve to their customers who would come into the store to pick up their roast, meat, etc. for Christmas Day. This was a tradition that carried on for many years and their customers looked forward to this each year.
Today, although the older generation has passed on, except for my grandmother’s youngest sister, my family and I still carry on this tradition of making my great-grandmother’s eggnog every Christmas. I hope that you will try this eggnog and enjoy it as much as we have for generations to come.
Virgin or Boozy Eggnog?
This eggnog is great however you make it! I make a big batch of this eggnog and add either rum or whiskey to individual drinks. This way the kids can have some without the booze and the adults can choose what booze they like best. I have grown up on the whiskey version as this was my dad’s favorite, mine too! However, my husband likes black strap rum. Experiment and see what one you like best!
