My Nana was an amazing lady and an even more amazing cook. She would come over and create the most delicious dinners you would ever taste! And if you asked her the recipe, she would just say “You’ve got to taste it and add things along the way.” Easier said than done for someone who was so skilled in the kitchen!
One of my favorite things she used to make me was rice pudding and her recipe was The Best Homemade Rice Pudding you’ll ever taste. It’s super simple to make and has only 5-6 ingredients in total. It’s creamy, sweet, and delicious!
Another great thing about this recipe is that it is gluten free. So for those of you who need the most delicious gluten free dessert, this recipe is a must.
So go grab your rice, milk, sugar, vanilla and egg and let’s get started…
The Best Homemade Rice Pudding-Ingredients
Pure vanilla extract, raisins, River Rice, milk, sugar, egg.
Instructions
In a large stove top pan, add 4 cups milk and stir in the sugar over medium heat.
Add in the rice and bring to a gentle boil.
Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes.
In a small mixing bowl, add egg, 2/3 cup milk and vanilla.
Whisk together.
Add mixture to the stove top pan and return to a boil, stirring regularly to avoid burning.
Optional: add 1/2-1 cup raisins and stir for 2-3 minutes or until thick and creamy.
Remove from heat.
Serve warm or cold, enjoy!

- 1 egg
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/2-1 cup raisins optional
Instructions
- In a large stove top pan, add 4 cups milk, sugar, rice and bring to a gentle boil.
- Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes.
- In a small mixing bowl, add egg, 2/3 cup milk and vanilla and whisk together.
- Add mixture to the stove top pan and return to a boil (once already simmered for 45 minutes), stiring regularly to avoid burning. Optional: add 1/2-1 cup raisins and stir for 2-3 minutes or until thick and creamy.
- Remove from heat, serve warm or cold and enjoy!
