Valentine's Day Blossom Cookies

Make a batch of these Valentine's Day Blossom Cookies! A sweet sugar cookie rolled in festive nonpareils and then topped off with a Dove chocolate heart.

Equipment

  • Stand mixer with a paddle attachment or hand mixer

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Valentine's Day nonpareils or red or pink decorating sugar
  • 1 bag Dove chocolate hearts

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment or a hand mixer, cream butter, vegetable shortening and sugar.
  • Add eggs and pure vanilla extract and beat until combined.
  • Add flour, baking powder and salt. Beat until a soft dough forms.
  • Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in Valentine's Day nonpareils or decorating sugar (red or pink) and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the bottom of the cookies are lightly golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes on the cookie sheet.
  • Lightly press the Dove chocolate heart onto the top of the cookie. Move to a wire rack and cool completely.
  • Serve and enjoy!
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days. To freeze, store in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Place wax paper between layers.
