This Caramel Apple Crisp combines tart apples and creamy caramel sauce topped off with a delicious oat and brown sugar crisp. It’s so good!
It’s fall! Bring it on! Especially the delicious apple desserts! Apple pies, tarts, cookies, breads and my absolute favorite, apple crisps! Last year, I posted The Best Apple Crisp that combines tart apples topped off with a scrumptious oat, cinnamon and brown sugar topping. However, today I am bringing you another great one, this Caramel Apple Crisp!
The other day, I posted my Easy Homemade Caramel Sauce that I used in this recipe. Instead of using granulated sugar and cinnamon mixed in with the apples, just drizzle the caramel sauce and mix it with the apples instead. The caramel sauce adds richness, creaminess and complexity, taking this dessert up a notch! And if you love caramel and apples, one seriously delicious combination, then you are going to LOVE this Caramel Apple Crisp! I can’t get enough of it!
One great thing about apples, and making apple desserts, is that you can always find them at your local grocery stores. Unfortunately, the apples found off season can be up to 9-12 months old. They still taste ok, but they don’t compare to the fresh ones that you can find during peak apple season.
My family and I enjoy picking our own at the Barden Family Orchard in Scituate, Rhode Island. They have tons of apples including my favorites; Macoun, Cortland, McIntosh and Empire. However, Granny Smith apples are used in many recipes because of their tart taste. Hence, they are what I used in this Caramel Apple Crisp. The sweetness of the caramel and the tartness of the apples make this dessert truly amazing!
