The Best Apple Crisp in a bowl

There’s something undeniably comforting about a warm, homemade apple crisp. The aroma of cinnamon and baked apples wafting through the kitchen, the irresistible combination of sweet, tart, and crispy textures – it’s a dessert that defines the coziness of fall. In this blog post, we’ll unveil the ultimate recipe for creating The Best Apple Crisp, focusing on the importance of understanding the ingredients and providing you with detailed step-by-step instructions to achieve perfection.

The Best Apple Crisp

Selecting the Perfect Apples

Before we delve into the recipe, let’s talk apples. Not all apples are created equal when it comes to apple crisp. You’ll want to choose apples that strike the right balance between sweetness and tartness. Varieties like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji are excellent choices due to their crisp texture and robust flavor. Here in New England one of my favorites is Macoun. Macouns also known as the “the potato chip apple” because of its firm, crispy texture. In addition, it has a nice tart and sweet flavor, making it a great choice for apple crisp.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Preparing the Apple Filling:

  1. Begin by peeling, coring, and thinly slicing your selected apples.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, flour, lemon juice and ground cinnamon. This will not only sweeten the apples but also infuse them with the warm, comforting flavor of cinnamon.
  3. Allow the apple filling to sit for about 10-15 minutes. This will help the apples release their juices, creating a luscious, flavorful base for your crisp.
