Similar to a Moscow Mule, the Dark ‘N’ Stormy uses Gosling’s Black Seal Rum instead of vodka, fresh lime juice and ginger beer. Served in a highball glass over ice with a fresh lime slice! Cheers!
What is a Dark ‘N’ Stormy?
The Dark ‘N’ Story has just three ingredients! Gosling’s Black Seal Rum, ginger beer and fresh lime juice. Adding the fresh lime juice is optional and not part of the patented recipe. In addition, it can be made in just a few simple steps! Fill a highball glass with ice, pour in the ginger beer, rum and fresh lime juice. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy! It’s smooth and delicious! Similar to a Moscow Mule (vodka, ginger beer and lime) so if you are looking for a change, then this might be it!
Fun Facts
- The Dark ‘N’ Stormy is often referred to as the national drink of Bermuda.
- Sometime after World War I, officers of the British Royal Navy added Gosling’s Black Seal Rum to their Ginger Beer and the Dark ‘N’ Stormy was born.
- In 1991, Gosling Brothers Ltd. filed, and was awarded, two trademarks on the recipe.
- Famous for it’s shipwrecks, the infamous Bermuda Triangle is a 200-square-mile area considered to be extremely hazardous. Over 300 sunken vessels have been identified. It is believed the drink’s origins lie here.
- The name allegedly came after a British soldier thought that it resembled “the color of a cloud that only a fool or a dead man would sail under.”
While not considered a classic cocktail, it shares many similarities to some of the classics. Mainly, only three ingredients that when combined correctly result in a harmonious beverage. If you enjoy this cocktail try out some other classic cocktails. Enjoy!
