Cocktail in a round low ball glass

We have been really enjoying the margaritas lately and all the fun drinks we can make with tequila! Check out some of our latest tequila drinks-Spicy Paloma Cocktail, Simple Lemon Margarita, and Frozen Watermelon Margarita. However, this Peach Margarita is one of my new favorites! This margarita is sweet, refreshing and busting with delicious peach flavor. If you love peaches then you are going to love this Fresh Peach Margarita!

This Fresh Peach Margarita is perfect for summer! It is peach season here in Massachusetts, so the grocery stores are filled with fresh peaches. However, when peaches are not in season, you can always use canned or frozen for this drink. In addition, you can always add a little peach schnapps to this drink. It will enhance that peach flavor!

How to pick out the best peaches

It is often difficult to pick out fresh and ripe peaches when shopping. Here are a few tips that will help you. Ripe peaches are usually dark yellow or deep golden yellow with a few wrinkles around the stem. Don’t choose peaches with hints of green, red blush or other highlights as it usually means that they are not ripe.

Touch the fruit when deciding on what peaches are ripe. Gently squeeze to see if it’s ripe. Not too hard as you don’t want to bruise it in the process. If the peach is soft, it is ripe and ready for consumption. If the peach only gives slightly, then it’s almost ripe. Store it for a day or two to allow it to ripen a little more. However, when they are hard with no give, the fruit is unripe. Don’t pick that one!

Lastly, smell the peaches. When peaches are ripe they have a sweet, inviting, peachy smell that is undeniable. If there is no smell radiating from the peach, don’t pick that one either!

Peaches, lime juice, Cointreau, tequila, simple sugar and ice blended and pour in a prepared glass

Fresh Peach Margarita-Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz tequila
  • .5 oz Cointreau or triple sec
  • .5 oz fresh lime juice
  • .5 oz simple sugar
  • 1 cup sliced peaches (fresh skinned, canned or frozen, about 1 peach)
  • 1 cup ice
  • peach slice, lime slice or lime twist for garnish

Fresh Peach Margarita-Instructions

  • Take a lime wedge and rub it around the outside of the glass. Dip glass into salt or sugar.
  • In a blender, add tequila, Cointreau or triple sec, fresh lime juice, simple sugar, sliced peaches and ice.
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Pour into prepared glass.
  • Garnish with a peach slice, lime slice or lime twist.
  • Cheers!

Tips

  • If you find that the mix is too thick, then add some extra juices. You could always add a little more alcohol too, if you want a stronger drink. If it’s too thin, add some more ice cubes and blend until you get the desired consistency.
  • Rim the glass with sugar if you would like a sweeter drink. You can also add some brown sugar too if desired. Brown sugar goes great with peaches! Salt the rim if you like a salty and sweet taste.
  • You can serve the margarita in any glass. I used a rounded lowball glass but feel free to use a traditional margarita glass, coupe glass or mason jar.
  • Canned peaches come in water and syrup. If using the ones in water, strain them first. If using ones in syrup you will probably need to eliminate the simple syrup used in the following recipe as canned peaches are usually very sweet.
  • Add a little peach schnapps instead of the simple syrup if you want a stronger peach flavor. A half ounce will probably do!
  • Don’t want it frozen? Then muddle the peach slices with the lime juice and simple syrup first. Then add the tequila, Cointreau or triple sec, and ice to the shaker. Shake well and strain into a chilled glass.

What kind of tequila should I use?

Only a few ingredients to make a margarita: lime juice, sweetener (orange liqueur such as Cointreau or triple sec, and/or simple sugar) and most importantly tequila. There are two types of tequilas that are traditionally used in a margarita: blanco (aka silver), minimally or un-aged tequila or reposado, a high-proof tequila that is aged in oak for a period of two to twelve months.

According to Liquor.com the best tequila for margaritas is Roca Patrón Silver that will run you about $40. However, if you are looking for a budget friendly option they suggest Espolòn Blanco at Drizly that is about $17. For the following margarita we used Milagro Silver Tequila that is about $32.
