We are finishing off the week with this Frozen Pineapple Daiquiri. Tropical cocktails are among some of my most favorite! In addition, there is nothing better than a tasty frozen, tropical drink on a hot summer day! Here are some fun facts about the daiquiri…

Who invented the Daiquiri?

It is believed that the daiquiri was invented by Jennings Cox, an American engineer, who lived and worked in Cuba after the Spanish-American War. As the story goes, while hosting a party, he invented the daiquiri after he ran out of gin. On the fly, he substituted rum in the punch. Thus, the daiquiri was born.

6 Basic Cocktails

There are 6 Basic Cocktails, according to David A. Embury, who was a well-known mixologist and the author of The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks (1948), an encyclopedia of the 20th century cocktail. The Daiquiri, the Jack Rose, the Manhattan, the Martini, the Old Fashioned, and the Sidecar.

Daiquiri Ingredients/Kinds of Daiquiris

The ingredients in a daiquiri include rum, citrus juice (typically lime juice), and sugar or simple sugar. There are many kinds of daiquiris but the most common ones include strawberry, pineapple and piña colada. Other common fruits used are bananas, watermelon and mango. Although there is no limit to what fruit you can use.
