I really enjoy hot, spicy foods and I love hot peppers! So much so that I have 5 jalapeño plants and two Carolina Reapers, which according to the Guinness World Record is the hottest chili pepper in the world measuring 1,641,183 Scoville Heat Units. Compared to the Jalapeño which scores around 2,500-10,000 Scoville Heat Units. Needless to say, I have a ton of both! So this past weekend we decided to make this Green Jalapeño Sauce and it was delicious. Creamy, spicy and so flavorful! It’s a great addition to pretty much anything. Mains like chicken, fish or beef, add it to your tacos, salsas or chili to spice things up.
This Green Jalapeño Sauce is easy to make and in about 20-25 minutes from start to finish you can have a delicious sauce that will add a little heat to your favorite foods. If you enjoy spicy foods, then this sauce is a must try!

- One of the most well-known chill peppers
- A mature jalapeño is about 2-4 inches in size

How to adjust the heat factor
Jalapeños can pack some heat, however they can vary in spice level. Here are a few ideas on how to adjust the heat factor. The following sauce is about the equivalent of red hot sauce, so if you like it spicy then follow the directions below. If you want to dial the heat back then cut the jalapeños lengthwise and take out some of the seeds and pith, the white part of the pepper, prior to boiling.
Green Jalapeño Sauce-Ingredients
- 8-12 fresh jalapeños peppers (8-large or 12-small)
- 1/2 vidalia onion (medium size)
- 4-5 garlic cloves
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1-2 tsp salt
- 1 oz lime juice
- water (to cover the vegetables)
Instructions
- Wash jalapeños. Slice the stems off and add them to a sauce pan.
- Dice the onion and add to the pan.
- Cover with water and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes or until they are easily pierced with a fork. They will turn a dull green.
- Strain and add the peppers and onions to a blender or food processor.
- Add garlic, vegetable oil, salt and lime juice and blend until smooth. Roughly 30-45 seconds.
- Add to your favorite foods!

- To store, put in a mason jar or an air tight container and refrigerate for 1-2 weeks.
