I always keep an assortment of frozen fruits in the freezer just for smoothies. Frozen fruits work really well in smoothies because they keep the smoothie thick and cold.

Blueberries are great for smoothies! You can buy them frozen or get fresh ones and freeze them. They store well in the freezer. Blueberries have more anitoxidents than any other fruit or vegetable. Also, blueberries contain antioxidant chemical compounds called polyphenols. These compounds have been shown to break down belly fat and help metabolism. With only 100 calories per cup, blueberries are a great low calorie addition to a smoothie.

In addition, pears are a great source of fiber, that aid in digestion and flush out toxins from the digestive track.

Simple Tips for Making the Best Smoothies

Although there is really no wrong way to make smoothies, here are some simple tips!

  1. Use a good blender. If you are going to be making a lot of smoothies or other things that require use of a blender then invest in a good one. They are worth the money! The better blenders are more durable and hold up much better, especially when blending frozen fruits. Many of them are also designed to fold the ingredients back into the center, making for a smoother and faster blend. We use this Vitamix blender.
  2. Put a banana in your smoothie. Using a banana adds the sweet flavor to your smoothie. It is also the perfect base that helps to make your smoothie creamy and delicious!
  3. Stock up on frozen fruit. Whether you buy fresh fruit and then freeze or buy pre-packaged frozen fruit, keep your freezer stocked. It’s a great way to provide your kids with a nutritious snack before school. (My daughter is not a big fan of breakfast but loves to drink a smoothie in the morning).
  4. Be creative! Experiment with different types of fruit combinations, add in some mix-ins, etc. You never know what new creation might be a huge hit!

Blueberry Pear Fruit Smoothie-Ingredients

Add fruit, yogurt, milk and blend well. If using frozen fruit, put the milk and yogurt in first, otherwise the fruit may turn into a frozen ball that is difficult to blend. Start blender on low, increase speed as fruit blends in. Once mixed, blend on high for 30 seconds.
