Methods to making pulled pork

There are many methods to making pulled pork. Jim loves to put it on the grill and smoke a pork butt. While unbelievably delicious, that can take up to 10 hours! Thus, the only chance we have for that delicious meal is on the weekend. Some people bake it, but Jim says “you’ll just end up with a dry, and stringy mess.” I’ve baked pork chops before and it’s not exactly a fan favorite in my house. You could also braise the pork in a dutch oven, but that’s time consuming too. This slow cooker/crock pot method results in tender juicy pulled pork every time and it’s super easy!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork-Ingredients

  • 3-5 pieces boneless pork chops
  • 1 cup favorite barbecue sauce
  • 1 Tbsp water

We usually have boneless pork chops on hand in the freezer, so that is our go to. However, you can use bone in pork chops, pork butt or pork shoulder as well. Trim any excess fat before placing in the slow cooker or crock pot.

What if my pork is frozen? No Problem, just place the frozen pieces in the slow cooker and add an additional hour to the cook time.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork-Instructions

  • Plug in your slow cooker.
  • Add 1-2 tablespoons of water to the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Add 3-5 pieces of boneless pork.
  • Pour barbecue sauce on top and cover with the lid.

  • Cook on high for about 4-6 hours or low 8-10 hours (the meat should easily come apart with a fork). If not, cook a little longer.
  • Take two forks and pull meat apart (I usually add in more barbecue sauce and cook a litle longer so sauce is thicker).
