The Belmont Stakes is the final leg of the Triple Crown of horse racing. It is also the oldest of the three races starting in 1867. Named after August Belmont, a financier that made his name in New York politics and society. Mr. Belmont had a love for horse racing and his influence carried over to the Kentucky Derby.
Each race has an official drink and all are bourbon based. The Kentucky Derby has its iconic Mint Julep. The Preakness Stakes has the Black-Eyed Susan. Finally, the Belmont Stakes has the Belmont Jewel.
The Belmont Stakes cocktail changes the most frequently of all the official drinks. For many years the White Carnation was the official drink of the Belmont Stakes. However, in 1998, in came the Belmont Breeze and 2011 kicked off the era of the Belmont Jewel. The drinks of the Triple Crown are all bourbon based and the type of bourbon changes as the sponsors change. Belmont Jewel-Ingredients
There are only 3 ingredients to this cocktail. Bourbon, lemonade and pomegranate juice. Garnish with a lemon, orange or cherry. Traditionally, the cocktail is made with a Kentucky Bourbon. However, there are no hard and fast rules. I suggest using a bourbon you like or experiment with other whiskeys.
Instructions
Fill a lowball glass with ice. In a shaker filled with ice, combine bourbon, lemonade and pomegranate juice. Shake vigorously and pour contents of the shaker into the lowball glass. Garnish with a slice of lemon, orange or a cherry. Serve and enjoy!

- 1 1/2 oz Bourbon Whiskey
- 2 oz Lemonade
- 1 oz Pomegranate Juice
Instructions
- Fill a lowball glass with ice.
- In a shaker filled with ice, combine bourbon, lemonade and pomegranate juice. Shake vigorously.
- Pour contents of the shaker into the lowball glass.
