The first version believes that the Mudslide Cocktail was invented in the 1950s at the Wreck Bar in the Grand Cayman Island. As the story goes, a customer requested a White Russian. However, the bartender, named Old Judd, did not have any heavy cream so he substituted Irish cream liqueur instead, creating the first version of the Mudslide. 

However, the second version believes that the cocktail originated in the 1970s by Baileys to help market its Irish cream. Baileys Irish Cream was introduced in 1974 after 2 years in development. So if one of the main ingredients of the drink was not introduced until the ’70’s, I kinda of lean to the second version being more accurate. Whatever story you prefer, we’ve been enjoying this great cocktail served in a variety of ways, for over 50 years!

  • whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles (for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a blender, add vodka, coffee liqueur, Irish cream, chocolate syrup and ice.
  • Blend on high speed until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
  • Pour into a hurricane or cocktail glass.
  • Add whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles to the top. For an added touch of indulgence swirl chocolate syrup over the top of the whipped cream and/or add a cherry to the top. 
  • Serve and enjoy!
