Calling all chocoholics! These Delicious Double Chocolate Donuts are moist, rich and loaded with chocolate. Just one bite and you will be hooked!
My kids love the double chocolate doughnuts from Dunkin’ Donuts. However, today they asked me to make them chocolate donuts for breakfast. These Delicious Double Chocolate Donuts are quick and easy to make and your kids will LOVE them! These donuts only take about 10 minutes to bake and are a healthier alternative to fried donuts. Baking the donuts give them a moist, cake-like texture and your kids will have fun adding their favorite toppings to the creamy, chocolate frosting!
As many of you know, I love chocolate and this recipe satisfies my chocolate cravings in a big way! There are two kinds of chocolate in this recipe. First, the unsweetened cocoa powder for the batter. Second, the unsweetened Baker’s chocolate for the frosting. Paired together, these two chocolates render the most delicious, moist, rich, chocolate donut you will ever taste! Add a glass of milk and enjoy!
Delicious Double Chocolate Donuts-Ingredients
Sour cream, cocoa powder, sprinkles, flour, baking soda, canola oil, baking soda, dark brown sugar, salt, egg, pure vanilla extract. Don’t forget your donut pan!
Instructions
- To start you will need a donut pan. By investing in and using a donut pan, you will get the traditional donut with the hole in the middle. For this recipe you will only need one pan, which will make 6 donuts. However, I recommend buying two pans especially if you are looking to make more than 6 donuts. In addition, I recommend that you use baking spray with flour to grease the pans. This is the easiest and best way to ensure that your donuts won’t stick!
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- In a mixing bowl, stir together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt.
- Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment or hand mixer, add dark brown sugar, sour cream, canola oil, egg and pure vanilla extract and beat until combined. If you do not have a stand mixer or hand mixer, you can just mix it together with a whisk or a wooden spoon.
- Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and beat until smooth. Batter will be thick.
- To ensure perfect donuts, spoon batter into a piping bag or a resealable bag. If using a resealable bag, cut off a corner of the bag. Pipe/squeeze the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling about two-thirds full. If needed, smooth down the batter. If you want to skip this step that’s perfectly fine, just use a teaspoon, drop in the batter and smooth it down.
- Bake for about 9-10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Make sure you are keeping a watchful eye on them. Because they are dark brown you won’t be able to see them baking to a golden brown. Use your finger and press down on the donuts, they are done when they are just about firm.
- Cool in pan for about 2-3 minutes. Move to a wire rack and cool completely.
Chocolate Frosting-Instructions
Top these Delicious Double Chocolate Donuts off with rich and creamy chocolate frosting. It only takes a few minutes to whip it up!
- In a small sauce pan, melt the unsweetened Baker’s chocolate.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with a hand mixer. Add melted chocolate and beat until combined.
- Add confectioners sugar, milk and pure vanilla extract and beat until smooth. If frosting is too thick add a little milk at a time and beat until the desiered consistency is reached.
- Frost donuts, and top with your favorite toppings! Rainbow sprinkles, chocolate sprinkles, nonpareils, etc.
- Enjoy!
- Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 2-3 days. To freeze, store in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
