History of the Grasshopper Cocktail
In 1918, Philibert Guichet from the Tujahue’s restaurant in New Orleans went to New York for a cocktail competition. His cocktail earned second place in the competition and was named the “Grasshopper” because of its green color. The drink became very popular back in New Orleans and is still on the menu over 100 years later at the restaurant.
Grasshopper Cocktail-Ingredients

What is Creme de Menthe?
Creme de Menthe is a bright green mint flavored liquor. It’s what gives the drink its green color. It also comes in a clear variety. Creme de Menthe is made from grain alcohol infused with mint and is usually around 50 proof. A bottle will run between $15 and $20 in the U.S.
What is Creme de Cacao?
Creme de Cacao is a cocoa bean flavored liquor, it comes in a dark and white or clear version and gives this drink a milk chocolate flavor. For this drink use the clear version. This is what gives the drink its chocolate flavor and is usually 50 proof as well. A bottle will run between $15 and $20 in the U.S.
What type of cream can I use?

Best ways to prepare your glass!
Add a chocolate swirl to the glass
If you want to add a chocolate swirl/drizzle to your glass, this is by far the easiest and best way. Use hard shell chocolate syrup. Place your glass into the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes. Drizzle on the hard shell chocolate. It should stick well to the chilled glass.
Rim the glass
Dip the rim of the glass into simple syrup or chocolate syrup. Then dip into crushed chocolate, chocolate sprinkles, cocoa powder or graham cracker crumbs.
Garnish
Add whipped cream and top with chocolate syrup, chocolate shavings, chocolate sprinkles, cocoa powder, etc. Add a maraschino cherry if desired.
