With only 5 ingredients, this tropical Pineapple Mango Smoothie is simple to whip up. It’s bright, creamy, healthy and a great way to start your day or for an afternoon pick me up.
We love smoothies and always keep some frozen fruit on hand so we can whip one up anytime. Frozen fruit works really well in smoothies because they keep the smoothie thick and cold.
Our kids love smoothies! We particularly enjoy these for breakfast before school or as a healthy after school snack. Our girls are very active! With soccer, dance, field hockey, basketball and many more activities, smoothies have become a go to for a pre-game pick me up or after game recovery.
How to choose a good pineapple
A pineapple should look fresh with green leaves and a firm shell. The pineapple should “give” a little when squeezed and should have the distinctive pineapple smell. The pineapple should also feel heavy and not hollow. Pineapples are available year round and peak season is March through July.
How to choose a mango
A ripe mango will have a smooth skin and should “give” a little with you squeeze it. It will have a fruity smell at the stem. Mangoes are available year round and peak season is May through September.

Simple Tips for Making the Best Smoothies
Although there is really no wrong way to make smoothies, here are some simple tips!
- Use a good blender. If you are going to be making a lot of smoothies or other things that require use of a blender, then invest in a good one. They are worth the money. The better blenders are more durable and hold up much better, especially when blending frozen fruits. Many of them are also designed to fold the ingredients back into the center, making for a smoother and faster blend. We use this Vitamix blender.
- Put a banana in your smoothie. Using a banana adds sweet flavor to your smoothie. It’s also the perfect base that helps make your smoothie creamy and delicious!
- Stock up on frozen fruit. Whether you buy fresh fruit and then freeze or buy pre-packaged frozen fruit, keep your freezer stocked. It’s a great way to provide your kids with a nutritious snack before school. My middle daughter Sammie, is not a big fan of breakfast but loves to drink a smoothie in the morning.
- Be creative! Experiment with different types of fruit combinations, add in some mix-ins, etc. You never know what new creation might be a huge hit!
