What is Puff Pastry?
Puff pastry is a light and flaky pastry dough that is used in a variety of recipes. It’s made from a laminated dough, which simply means that the butter is folded into the dough numerous times to create very thin, alternating layers of butter and dough. Thus the reason it puffs up nicely and has a great flaky texture. Butter, salt, water and flour are the only ingredients needed to make puff pastry. As you can see, there is no need for any leavening agents. While many people opt to make puff pastry from scratch, it’s pretty time consuming and labor intensive. Save time, and use the store-bought version. I sure did and this tart is fantastic!
What is the best puff pastry to use?
Pepperidge Farm and Pillsbury puff pastry are my two favorites. They can be easily found at most local grocery stores like Stop & Shop, Shaw’s, Market Basket, Whole Foods, Kroger, etc. Find puff pastry at Target, Walmart and Amazon too.
What can you make with puff pastry?
A lot of different recipes call for puff pastry. Mainly because of its versatility and ease of use. There are many recipes that use puff pastry like “Easy as Pie” Cherry Turnovers, Beef Wellington, tarts, pot pies, and appetizers. Try this Simple Apple Tart today, you won’t be disappointed!
