Step-by-Step Instructions for Spooky Halloween Dirt Cups

Step 1: Make the chocolate pudding layer for the base

For the base we have the creamy chocolate pudding layer. For the pudding, you have a couple of options here:

  • You can make your own chocolate pudding from scratch using your favorite recipe.
  • However, if you’re short on time, you can use pre-made chocolate pudding mix. Either way, the goal is to achieve a smooth and creamy pudding that will contrast beautifully with the “dirt” layer. For our recipe, we used Jello instant chocolate pudding.

Step 2: “Dirt” layer

The next step in making Halloween Dirt Cup Desserts is preparing the top layer or “dirt” layer. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Crush the chocolate cookies until they resemble a dirt-like texture. You can use a food processor or place the cookies in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin.

Step 3: Assemble the dirt cups

With your “dirt” layer and chocolate pudding ready, it’s time to assemble the dirt cups. Follow these steps:

  • Take clear cups or containers to showcase the layers.
  • Carefully spoon in the chocolate pudding, filling about 1/2 full.
  • Next, add a few spoonfuls of the crushed cookie mixture. This will be the “dirt.”

Step 4: Add some spooky Halloween decorations

The final step is the most fun – decorating your Spooky Halloween Dirt Cups! Let your creativity run wild as you add your Halloween-themed decorations:

  • Place gummy worms so they look like they’re crawling out of the “dirt.”
  • Insert tombstone-shaped cookies to create a mini graveyard. Use an edible marker or chocolate frosting and pipe on RIP or some spooky names.
  • Add edible eyeballs or bones for an eerie touch.
  • Scatter candy pumpkins to complete the spooky scene. Feel free to mix and match decorations and encourage your kids to join in the fun. The more creative, the better!
