Why’ll you love Bailey French Toast
- Decadent, rich and creamy!
- St. Patrick’s Day breakfast or anytime you want to indulge!
- Fun twist on the classic!
- Great way to start off your morning!
Understanding the Ingredients
- Baileys Irish Cream: The star of the show. Baileys provides the creamy, silky luxurious texture to the custard mixture with a hint of Irish whiskey. Cocoa and vanilla notes round out these flavors providing maximum deliciousness!
- Bread: The type of bread you use can make a big difference. We recommend using thick slices of bread like brioche, challah, French baguette or Italian bread work exceptionally well due to their soft and airy interior and crusty exterior. In addition, these types of bread hold up well when soaking in the custard mixture.
- Eggs: Eggs are essential to making good French toast. They add richness and play a crucial part in binding the custard mixture to the bread.
- Milk: Whole milk is the best type of milk to use, however half-and-half, heavy cream or a combination of different milks will work too. Whole milk adds richness and creaminess to the custard mixture.
- Salt: A pinch of salt brings out all the right flavors creating a well-balanced French toast.
- Spices: Adding spices like vanilla extract, cinnamon or nutmeg can enhance the flavor of the custard mixture and give your French toast a unique and irresistible taste.
- Butter: Adding butter to your pan will help to prevent sticking and will provide a rich, and buttery taste!
Preparing the Baileys Infused Custard
The magic of Baileys French Toast lies in the custard mixture. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, Baileys, a splash of vanilla extract until well combined. Add in a pinch of salt and cinnamon to enhance and meld all the flavors. Aim for a smooth consistency that will coat the bread evenly without weighing it down.
Preparing the Bread
To achieve the perfect texture for your French toast, it’s essential to start with the right bread. Opt for slightly stale bread slices, which will absorb the custard mixture without becoming soggy. Slice your bread into 1-inch slices and get ready to soak up all the flavors.
Soaking and Cooking the Baileys French Toast
Dip each slice of bread into the Baileys-infused custard mixture. Allow the bread to soak for 1-2 minutes on both sides, ensuring it is fully coated and able to absorb all the flavors. Next, heat a skillet or frying pan over medium heat and cook the Baileys French Toast until golden brown and crispy on the outside, with a fluffy interior. Be sure to flip the slices halfway through cooking for even browning.
Serving Suggestions and Garnishes
Once your French toast is perfectly cooked, it’s time to get creative with your toppings and garnishes. Consider topping your Baileys French Toast with:
- Fresh berries
- Whipped cream
- A drizzle of maple syrup, chocolate syrup or strawberry syrup
- Chocolate chips or chocolate shavings
- The possibilities are endless! Feel free to mix and match to create your perfect breakfast masterpiece.
